Our Commitment to Sustainability

Building on our Environmental Policy, Operations Log, and environmental permits, we systematically work to improve

At Tuco Group, we are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint across all aspects of our operations. Through careful evaluation of materials, raw resources, processes, and waste management, we strive to reduce any negative environmental impact. This commitment extends to the development of new products and ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in our production and supply chain.

Minimize environmental impact

We thoroughly assess materials, processes, and disposal methods to reduce waste and environmental footprint.

Optimize resource utilization

Monitor material, energy, and water usage to reduce consumption and enhance efficiency. Through our Operations Log, we document resource use and maintenance.

Continuous improvement

Implement and evaluate environmental initiatives through monthly monitoring of materials and resources per unit produced.

Open dialogue on environmental matters

We actively promote open and constructive dialogue about environmental concerns, both internally and with external stakeholders such as authorities

Focus on Innovation

Innovation is a core value at Tuco Group. We actively participate in international development projects that promote sustainability and innovation in the maritime sector. Additionally, we regularly attend industry conferences to stay updated on the latest trends and developments.

These events allow us to showcase our progress and products while contributing to the green transition in the maritime industry.
We also actively collaborate with universities and students to foster innovation and development.

Through internships and mentorships, we provide students with opportunities to gain experience in the maritime sector. Furthermore, we contribute with thesis topics that support research and the development of new sustainable solutions in the industry.

Our involvement in development projects exemplifies our commitment to creating solutions that benefit both our customers and the environment.

SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS

The DIGI4ECO Project

A groundbreaking initiative focusing on new solutions for managing and
restoring marine ecosystems and biodiversity through digital innovation. DIGI4ECO, Digital Twin-sustained 4D Ecological Monitoring of Restoration in Fishery Depleted Areas, is a pioneering initiative aimed at unlocking new discoveries crucial for addressing climate change and regulating human activities. Our mission is to harness the power of digital technology to advance environmental conservation and socio-economic development.

We believe that access to comprehensive biological and oceanographic data is fundamental to effective environmental stewardship. This project is dedicated to making past, current, and future data accessible to everyone. Through innovative tools and methodologies, we will utilize relevant “sleeping” data collected by various institutions, including physical and chemical sensors and video cameras.

The REFEST Project

REFEST is a 3-years project, structured in 8 Work Packages, managed by a Consortium of 14 Partners from 10 Countries. It is focused on the most promising scalable technologies, easy-to-deploy and suitable to be installed in a broad range of traditional fishing ships to provide hydrodynamics, electrical power management, alternative propellers, solar electricity generation and propulsion (batteries), sensoring and digitalization, hull appendages and air lubrication.

The project aims to achieve procedures and technologies to secure the reduction of fuel consumption and GHG emissions up to 40% reduction compared to the original design. The solutions proposed will be designed to ready to deploy in a broad range of small fishing vessels. Ensuring upscaling of the proposed solutions after project implementation till 2029.

The BlueDolphin Project

The objective of the BlueDolphin project is to develop and demonstrate a scalable high-temperature proton-exchange membrane fuel cell range-extender platform for smaller electric marine vessels such as yachts, workboats, ferries etc. The platform will be powered by liquid renewable methanol and hereby enable indirect electrification of waterborne transport. The solution eliminates all harmful emissions such as NOx and SOx and reduces CO2 emissions with up to 100% from a well-to-wheel perspective. The proposed solution overcomes critical challenges observed from alternative sustainable solutions (hydrogen fuel cells and battery electric) by offering value propositions such as long travelling range, superior energy density, high efficiency and cost competitive fuel economy, which is on par with today’s diesel engines.
