Series Introduction: The ocean is the opportunity of the next decade, and it starts with getting on the water.

Understanding marine life we have barely begun to catalogue. Restoring depleted habitats. Powering the grid from offshore wind. Protecting the cables and pipelines on the seabed.

These are among the defining projects of the decade, and every one of them begins the same way: someone has to observe the ocean, accurately and repeatedly. That has always been our world.

For more than twenty years we have built for the organisations that study and manage the sea, hydrographic and coastal authorities, navies, universities and research institutes, and increasingly we build alongside them, including in European ocean-research programmes developing the next generation of autonomous and sampling platforms.

Itโ€™s part of why several of our most advanced research and survey platforms are on the build floor right now.

Over the coming weeks weโ€™re publishing a three-part series that takes the wider view: the science and stewardship of the marine environment, the infrastructure and energy we build in the sea, and the sensor technology that makes the data trustworthy.
